Solar Activity 06 Jun

Grey morning with occasional very light rain cleared during the afternoon, but it wasn't long before high cloud spread back in. Seeing was very poor to bad with jet stream type smearing as well as moderate boiling.

Solar activity is declining. The small spot near old AR 11073 appears to have dissolved

AR 1076 is also on the decline, shrinking and dissolving as it approaches the limb. There are however associated white light faculae:

The filament train in the north continues to be a prominent feature. A second filament train is developing parallel to its east:

There is a notable prominence on the north east limb which may represent the projection of the (incomplete) filament train over the limb:

It's interesting how the more northern (right hand) component appears to be much less sharply focused than the other, brighter component. Other images made today also show this effect, so it is likely to be real. Unfocused plasma, or rapid motion causing apparent blurring?

The CaK overview shows that rotation of the disk over the next day or two will remove the main centres of activity from the disk. Will anything rotate into view to replace it, will new active areas form on the visible side or will the disk actually go blank?

Transparency moderate to good until cirrus spread in late in the session. Seeing poor to bad, moderate jet stream smearing coupled with moderate boiling. Temperature 17C, wind NW force 2-3.
