Parking the mount

My two temporary piers are now in place and I've noticed that the mounts park with the 'scope pointed at Polaris so the top of the 'scope is high enough to catch the roof (dang!). Anybody know a way to get it parked elsewhere, maybe horizontal, as that way I will have less aligning to do when I repower the things.

I'm working on this myself for my EQ6. It's a mechanical mod. The problem being one of how to make it such that it can be installed "in the field". When I get it working I will make the details available.

I'm not sure i understand this correctly. Why can't you just move the Dec 90 degrees to store the scope? If you turn off tracking it should stay where it is?

'cos if you turn off the power in an unparked position, all the alignment is lost, as is the PEC stuff.

Of course you can leave it powered up all the time, but it's nicer if you can go to bed with the power off, it's known as "skelescope won't smack the roof or floor and die" anxiety.

Well, you can park it then rotate it 90 degrees after you turn it off CC - just rotate it back before you turn it back in. Bit of Tippex to help and you're sorted?

Maybe that's what the numbered rings are for on the axes, it could be that I can park it, set both dials to zero, move it to clear the roof and put it back tomorrow?

Sounds like a plan so far to me.

's what I used to do CC. the main thing is to store the PEC, not the park position - which you can always move (mount, not handset) on the first alignment star next time.
