Venus - 22 May

Had another go at imaging Venus in rather wobbly, hazy conditions. Didn't turn out too bad - but the midges had me for supper

Transparency moderate, seeing poor with considerable boiling. Temp 16C (dropping fast), wind calm.

just out of interest is the Astrodon £200 UVenus filter

the only option for Venus with small scope like mine ?

(wud IR be any use in small scope ?)

also do u live in woods or near water as u seem to have prob with midges,

didn't notice any myself last night ?

The Astrodon UVenus filter is the one I'm using ... so it works with 4.3". Violet Wratten #47 is probably worth a try but you'll need a IR blocking filter stacked with it is it does transmit strongly in the infra red. Visually the UVenus filter is NBG (it's black!) & #47 really needs 6"+ to work well.

The water I live near is the Atlantic Ocean ... but Scotland is only 20 miles away, hence the midges.
