messier list

Recommended Posts

I started in 2000 when I got an 8" dob but initially didn't keep notes or records, just ticked off which ones I'd seen. By Dec 2001 I'd seen 45 of them and decided to make the effort to see them all (and keep proper observing notes). Also by then I'd acquired 15x70 binos and an 80mm f5 scope, and I used these to view the more southerly ones during holidays in Greece. I completed the set when I viewed M77 with the 8" on 29 Oct 2002.

With the same set-up I did over 80 Caldwells between Feb 02 and May 03 but I'll need to take a trip below the equator to finish those.

Never done a proper messier marathon...probs only got about ten. That's over a 4 year period though....maybe I should get onto it tonight if its clear!

Ones to date are:

M 1 M11 M13 M27 M31 M32

M36 M37 M38 M42 M43 M44

M45 M51 M57 M65 M66 M71

M81 M82 M92 M110

that's actually a lot more than 10, ha!
