Newer Webcams for imaging?

Red Alert

Recommended Posts

Unfortunately the newer ones aren't generally as suitable for astro photography as the older models. A toucam or a Phillips SPC900 are usually the most appropriate - both I understand are out of production.

The only newer one's available are the Celestron Neximage webcam which is fine for solar system shots and can be modified for long exposure on objects further afield, or the Meade camera which I know nothing about.

Hope that helps :)

Newer webcams usually go to bigger than 1/4" CMOS sensors. There is no "need" for CCD in webcams nowadays. Teleskop Express has Neximage-like CCD webcam at slightly lower price, and some dedicated webcam-like cameras will be the only solution for entry-level planetary imaging. Better cameras like Imaging Source cost much more but offer much more also :)
