Home Made T-ring?

Hi guys. I've been looking into imaging with my telescope. I have a dslr and a reflecting telescope and I have been looking at T-rings. Since I am a cheapskate (my inner Aberdonian showing through ), would it be possible to just cut a hole in a body cap for the camera, and glue in an unused eyepiece bit without the lens? This would allow me to connect the camera body and telescope - but is there something else that I'm missing here?

It is possible to do it that way, but for less than a tenner is it really worth it?
