Need help focusing using only DLSR

No its hasn't got liveview. One of the very few bad things about a D80.

A lot of AF lenses will turn a little way past "inifity" on the focus scale

Focus on a distant object in daylight then turn the af off... I use a small blob of blu-tack to lock the focus ring as the focus of AF lenses tend to creep with any vibration...

Sorry about the double post above. Blu-tack doesn't seem to be a very good idea. Now I'm a bit frustrated since I won't be able to try any of these method till my friend who has got the camera right now, comes back from Dubai.

no worries i find tape can shift the focus when you apply it... and you then have to remove it again

I will go and start with the bahtinov mask however. Will create a few of them...with different bar widths. There is no way I can cut through the generated template I got using astrojargon. And have to wait till I get the camera back, so I can try all of these.
