Mars 10-02-10

During the clear spells the seeing is rather poor. However I was able to get a good focus on Mars with both the 114mm and 84mm newts using 20mm EPs. The collimation on the 84mm is obviously out as I could see a ghost of the spider, and any higher magnification (12.5mm EP) was out of the question. The 114 could take a 4mm and just about gain focus. A nice salmon pink disc, with a hint of darker areas.

In M42 i could only pull out Trap A-D, and there was little nebulocity.

All attempts at Horsey were fruitless.

Were you using any filters for Mars? It was just too bright to make any detail out when I looked last night.
