Porrima (Gamma Virginis)

Recommended Posts

A year or so ago I managed to split this double with an 8" F/6 dobsonian and was quite pleased with myself :)

Last night I observed the star(s) again and got a clearer split this time with my 6" F/8 refractor. The data I've found suggests a separation of around 1.4 arc seconds at the moment - does that sound about right ?.

Theoretically well within the capabilities of 6" aperture of course but in the real observing environment quite a tight one I think.

Opening rapidly at the moment: BAA Handbook gives 1".39 PA 23.7 deg for 2010.0, 1".59 PA 18.5 deg for 2011.0.
