Dew Band

I have a celestron C6 XLT and have just purchased a firelite dew band, this may seem daft but do i put the band over the dovetail or put spacers to bring the dovetail away from the tube. The band is too wide to go round the end of the tube due to the dovetail being there. Would i not affect the heating by having it over the dovetail and hence away from the tube????

Wrap it over the dovetail. If the band is in contact with the tube for 3/4 of its circumference, it will do the job OK. Maybe an accurate fit would allow a slightly lower power setting, but it's nothing to worry about.
