The moon views

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have a skywatcher 130 supertrak.

I'm just looking for some advice on the best way to use it for moon views.

I currently have a 10mm and 25mm super EP along with a 2x barlow lense.

When looking at the moon last night the barlow with 10mm EP gave the best views but I would like to somehow get the views larger (if possible).

Am I using the best EP combo that I have to get the best views of the moon?

Would i get even better views with a 5mm EP (or are there even better options).

On a side note, how many parts would i be short from linking this scope up to my laptop. So i could guide from indoors and view the results on my screen.

I know I would need goto and i guess some form of camera too. What are the bare minimum cheapest of options or is this avenue not open to me with this scope?

Thanks,

Luke

A 10mm eyepiece with a 2x barlow lens is the equivilent of a 5mm eyepiece so getting 5mm won't change things for you. If you get a 6.3mm eyepiece then use it with the barlow you would get about the maximum useful power with your scope(206x) plus a useful 103x when the 6.3mm eyepiece is used on it's own.

I don't believe the Supatrack mounts can be computer driven I'm afraid.

It is possible to connect the non goto supatrak to a laptop.

This link shows how it is possible. Site in French

There is also a commercial bluetooth version available from a company called Ursa Minor. The unit costs about £94. The non bluetooth version could be made for about £25 or less.

Here is a link to a diy version.
