flat frames for atik ic16

Recommended Posts

hi again

i purchsed a few days ago the atik 16 ic and i want to ask a bit about the flat frames.

my question is how much time do i have to shoot for a flat frame? is it as long as the light frames or even shoreter times?

also i would like to ask this. i have an 8'' 1200mm newton f/6 and i am thinking about a focal reducer with a value of 0.5 or 0.8 in order to increase the FOV. should i go for this investement?

flat frames need to be exposed for as long as needed to create an average figure of 1/2 the maximum value for the pixels. If its a 16bit camera, then aim for an average for the frame of 25,000 to 35,000. The time required will vary from setup to setup, and so will require you to experiment yourself.
