Question about Barlow's

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

I had a quick question (request for personal opinions) about Barlow's. I am a little torn between the:

Skywatcher ED Deluxe Barlow (2" & 1.25")

and the

Celestron Ultima Barlow

I have a 2" 8mm - 24mm Hyperion tele, which I thought might be nice to double up with a barlow for some higher magnifications, in addition to effectively giving me 10 focal lengths with 2 pieces of kit, and I'm am not even sure if the Celestron will accept a 2" barrel.

Nonetheless, I thought I would ask everyone here and get some opinions on these, or indeed other Barlow's that folks prefer, before buying my final piece of kit for a while.

As always, thanks to everyone in advance!

Cheers,

The Celestron Ultima is a 1.25" barlow. A very good bit of kit though. Not sure about barlowing a zoom eyepiece - thats a lot of glass in the optical path.

Thanks John,

I hadn't thought about all the layered optics in the tele 'stealing' all the light. Sticking a barlow on top of that really wouldn't be a good idea.

I guess using a 2x barlow with the 10mm Plossl would give me an effective 300x mag, which from what I have read here is about the maximum I can stretch to on the 300p with UK skies?

Cheers!
