The Fabric of the Cosmos: Space, Time and the Texture of Reality by Brian Greene?

Thinking of getting a couple of books for reading over Christmas and saw this one.

Wondered if anyone has read it and what it's like.

Posted here as no idea where else and it may get a reply or two.

It's good if you want to know the state of superstring theory up to the time the book was published. What's happened since then is the realisation that the fabled M-Theory discussed at the end exists in not one but a kazillion possible versions.

I found the book very good at detailing the various mathematical tools the string theorists use (Kalabi-Yau manifolds, etc). Like most physics books, it gets more and more technical as you go along.

It doesn't have much to say about alternatives to string theory - Lee Smolin has written some very good books about that.
