HEQ 5 RA circle

Trying to get my head around the RA circle on my HEQ5. The set-screw just locks the circle to the mount, what use is that? Usually the RA circle has two indices, one of which is on a slip ring, the other on the mount. But with only one what do you do?

Sorry if this sound confused, but I am.

Oh, BTW I do know what RA is.

You are not confused, they are not much use !!

That's what I was thinking .

It looks as though it's only of use for polar aligning, I suppose they think you're going to use the Synscan GOTO controller , why I don't know. Well I guess I'll just have to wait untill I can afford a Losmandy or equivalent mount with circles that are actually of some use.

Well to be fair polar aligning is not just for use with the GoTo so the RA ring does have its uses. I always fo POlar alignment using the RA and time/date calculator and I never have any alignment problems with the GoTo.
