Worth it???

I've been keeping my eye out for a small (80mm) longer focal length scope for planetary stuff for a while now and have come across a mead 80mm F11 acromat going for around the £50 mark inc carriage.

Living as I do on disablement benefit, money is tight now and it seems an ok price for an F11 with 2" focuser (its an OTA only, no rings or extras)

so is it worth a go or am i going to be hugely disapointed?

The main reason for going for it is the increase in magnification over my 80mm F6, plus using the VR-1 filter in it should knock out some of the CA if its to bad.

Sort of thing that would make a good guide scope as well.

Is it the scope advertised by Telescope Warehouse in the States?

That focal length should make it very tolerant of optical flaws so should be good for visual planetary work esp at that price

Just bought it.. $89.85 inc shipping etc..via airmail.. works out around £50 with the exchange rate at present.

lets just hope the niece pays for the laptop this month...

A little late, but Ian King imaging also sell a 70mm f15 Vixen refractor for £50 which is of high quality.
