Perhaps progress on old M31 for me

The result of 2.5 hours from last Saturday (30x5mins). 450D@ISO400 this time with the TAIR-3-phS 300mm f/4.5 lens, stopped down to f/5.6. Guided (114/900 Newt-ToUcam-PHD-EQMOD-EQ6). Stacked with DSS, no darks, no flats. Processed, not so badly this time, with PixInsight LE.

A nice widefiled view of M31 Themos. Have you looked at the full version of Pix Insight the HDR wavelets function would help to bring out some detail towards the core. There is a 30 day unlimited trial of their program.

I haven't taken that plunge yet, Kevin. I am only just beginning to learn the LE version with its noise-reduction algorithms and its "ATrous" wavelet function.

But I can tell you I am quite impressed with the flatness of that lens at f/5.6. And the diffraction pattern of that diaphragm is something special, check out Nu Andromeda! £70 well spent, I think.
