when you construct an observatory,do you need to register it with anybody.many thanks

Dependign on what you have planned and where your going to put it you may need to get planning permission form the Council (take it your in the UK?)

If you build it without and they take "offence" - normally if buildign it upsets somone... then chances are you'll have to demolish it...

Daft thing is you can dump a steel shipping container just about anywhere and because it's a temporary structure (ok you need a lorry and hi-ab to shift it) you don't need planning...

i apologise for not being explicit,what i was refering to were astronomy organisations,or can i just call it the nightstar observatory.

I suppose you can call it anything you like... unless theres an existing observatory close by with the same name...

There is no such register (although there are website that list some of them) so you are absolutely free to choose any name your like for it although a Google search to make sure no one has beaten you to it would be wise.
