Cleaning filters?

Milliways

Recommended Posts

I was just wandering, what would be the best and safest way to clean finderprints off filters and eyepieces? I had my nephiew over yesterday and he rummeged thought all my astro kit :) found my filter and new eyepiece with fingerprints all over the glass!!

I have a glasses cloth.. would that work?

Cheers.

Dave.

Greasy fingerprints will need quite some cleaning fluid to remove. Do it gently several times until it comes off. For the eyepiece don't use so much fluid at one point that it might seep inside the eyepiece. Be patient and don't rub.

The scratch shouldn't be too detrimental, but you may see a diffraction spike.
