Slice of the Moon

For the very first time I stayed up until 1.00pm looking at the Moon.

I have never really studied it after a full Moon before.

I was fascinated by Mare Crisium, the detail around the Mare was amazing.

On each side of the Mare it seemed quite mountainous unless my eyes were playing tricks on me, the Mare eventually disappeared into the inky black night sky.

Here is a single prime focus shot using an Orion Optics OMC140 and Nikon D70 combo.

Nice shot Paul, been all night..well till 02:00 anyway.. on it myself as well. Must admit now can't wait until it starts going 3/4 and 1/2 to see the difference in the shots and the shadows cast from the features.

I'm not really cut out for this staying up till 2-3 AM malarky but it would be nice to see and image more of this phase of the Moon.
