Birthday Binos

My birthday is coming up, and I'm going to see if I can get someone to get me a pair of binos...

Looking for something under 40 quid. Scope'N'Skies had a few display models in their clearance section that look like really good deals:

Can anyone recommend something nice? Probably 8x50 or 10x50 would suit best....

And I know I should go and TRY them first, but this isn't really a possibility...

Maybe have a peek at Telescope House's website Telescope House the UK No.1 for Telescopes and Binoculars since 1785 - the front page has a couple of decent deals that may suit you - but the larger may need a tripod or some sort of help holding them steady.

Hey Eli, don't count on me for binos. I have a pair of Zhumell 10X42, waterproof porro prisms. Very nice binos. Compared them to 10X42 Zeiss and was unable to see difference. Only paid about $60 Canadian from Binoculars.com. May not be worth getting due to shipping. Waterproof ups the price by a bit. Nikons are nice too. If you don't need the waterproof feature you should be able to get something decent for your price range. But DO check 'm out first.

Oops, mine are roof prisms. For the money Porros tend to be better optically, but roofs are more comfortable to hold. Check out the following article.

My advice would be to go for the 10x50s and to give the lovely lads at FLO a ring - they are the best and will be able to give you great advice on what would suit best.
