New Sun grazer Comet Autumn 2024 A11bP7I

Recommended Posts

  • scotty1 changed the title to New Sun grazer Comet Autumn 2024 A11bP7I

MPC doesn't have any elements I can easily load. Google took me here: https://www.projectpluto.com/neocp2/mpecs/A11bP7I.htm

From there got a link to a fun page. If it works it should show the comets progress (geocentric I assume) across the sky. After Perihelion it's heading south.

Hope this works, it's "temporary" link so who knows if it works. You can generate your own map from the ProjectPluto link.

Edit: looking at times and positions, the orbit carries the comet pretty close the horizon before and immediately after parhelion, before being lost. This one will be best from the tropics. Assuming it survives perihelion!

I made a simple map for comet A11bP7I.

According to initial observations, I expect that we can observe this comet at dawn in the northern hemisphere.

This star chart is suitable for observers at mid-latitudes in the northern hemisphere.
