ASIAir and third party guide camera

Recommended Posts

With the ASIAir Pro, does the guide camera have to be a ZWO one or will it accept a third party camera?

Thank you,

Ian

The AsiAir will only accept ZWO cameras and some DSLR,  I've not heard of anyone using a DSLR for guiding though.

I wasn't going to use a DSLR as a guide cam... :p

Not that I expected you would but they are the only non-ZWO cameras that can be used with the ASIAir for PA, guiding or imaging.

Do you already have the ASIAir or checking before getting one?

It is annoying that it will only accept ZWO cameras because the thing works so well. A wee while back there was notice of a potential alternative to the ASiAir which would work with all equipment. The Touptek AstroStation - apparently pre orders have been available but it has yet to be released in the UK market as far as I know.  Functionally it is pretty much identical to the ASiAir.

ps  - on closer look there may also be restrictions on camera compatibility -  restricted to ToupTek, ZWO, QHY and PlayerOne

I just bought one.... was a good price on fleabay! I am planning on getting a ZWO camera but just thought I'd ask!

You asked about guide camera so have you an imaging camera to use (ZWO/DSLR) already?

The ASIAir Pro, as it uses an sd-card, can run Astroberry or Stellarmate which work with other brands of cameras (including ZWO). Not as simple to setup as the ZWO app but both have their reasons for some Astro users.
