Great day for tuning your solar scope

Today is a perfect opportunity to check your Ha filter is on-band. There’s a huge filament snaking across the solar disk, and a large, very bright active region alongside. For those who are new to solar Ha, the trick is to tune your filter so that the filament is as dark as possible, and the active region as bright as possible. It’s not often we get outstanding examples of both features close together. I’m just visual, but am sure there’ll be some lovely images resulting within the next couple of days.

Yep - it was crackling with activity until we clouded over a few minutes ago too Nik

Only white light for me, but the two larger active regions do look spectacular. 

I may be wrong but I think the older one has grown over the past couple days.
