Solar Scout 60DS - ASI120MM - Full disk

This is my first mosaic, composed of 2 images, necessitated because the ASI120MM has a very small chip and the reducer ran out of in-focus.

Two panels of 2 minutes at 30fps (1.7ms subs), stacked separately and drizzled 1.5. Sharpened in IMPPG and Gimp, and inverted in Gimp. To make the mosaic I simply aligned two layers in Gimp, added an alpha channel to the top layer, and erased the bottom of the top layer with a large very soft brush. Maybe there is a better way?

As has been suggested on another thread, I tried this time to make the orientation of the image conventional. Shot around 10:00 UTC this morning.

Well done on your first mosaic! And nice to wave goodbye again to that lovely AR! Or should I say, "Au revoir".

I didn't notice any join (though it must be said, I'm not the most observant - my wife sent me out onto the drive a few times to try to spot what was different one time - I didn't notice that she had car in a different colour...)

I am not the most observant either. Funny we picked a passtime centered on the act of observing!

Well done on your first mosaic.

There are lots of panoramic stitching software available that can bring the panes together. Personally, I use Affinity Photo and it’s Panorama tool, but that comes at a one off cost (currently £68) but they do from time to time offer great deals. Alternatively, you could try https://sisik.eu/pano which is free. A fellow astronomy club member uses it and has had good results with up to 7 panes so that might be worth a go.

I will take a look at pano, but lining up two panels in Gimp seems pretty easy too. I wouldn’t want to do more panels by hand though!
