Apollo 10 on S@N CD

Just looking at the Apollo 10 presskit on the Sky@N CD. It followed the Apollo 11 mission completely except at 8 miles from the moon they went up again.

Do you think they fuelled and provisioned the LM so it simulated the Apollo 11 LM properly? (As was the purpose of the mission). If so, could the astronauts have disobeyed Houston and actually landed?

amazingly houston were worried about this so they actualy short fueled the ascent motor so the astronauts knew that they were unable to land and then take off successfully.

they should have trusted the crew as on the final manufacturer's test flight of the x15 before it was handed over to NASA everyone expected the pilot, who would not fly it again, to ignore the planned flight profile, fully open it up and either set a new speed record or go for the height record, instead he flew exactly as planned.

ironically they probably wished he had gone for the height record as this was before gagarin's flight and x15 pilots actually qualified as asronauts when flying at its upper limits so america could have made a legit claim for the first man in space if he had.

Highly egotistical, highly motivated, highly competitive, highly skilled but also highly disciplined- my interpretation of the Apollo pilots, find it extremely hard to envisage such a disregard of the flight plan.
