Any targeter that you can recommend?

Recommended Posts

I got my StarGazer Heritage 130p and it came with a red dot finder

I unfortunately thought it'd be better to remove it every time I stop using it and I unfortunately broke it

I looked in Amazon, and the Skywatcher store page and I can't seem to find anything compatible, it is a very different mount to what I see in the stores,  I am hitting my head against the wall now, and hope you can help me with this

Edit: Sorry, I meant to send this in the Equipment help under the begginer forums, but I cannot find how to move it or delete it, just an edit option

Hi @CharlyLeyequien and welcome to SGL. :hello2:

I have one of these... https://www.firstlightoptics.com/finders/astro-essentials-deluxe-red-dot-finder.html but under a different brand name. It has the option to switch from green to red, so that is useful for daytime use as well as night time.

Awesome, thanks a lot, that is a great option! :)

The base looks like a rail compatible with most red dot gun sights. They are lots of models available and cost very little, the only diwnside with them is the dot tends to be too bright for astronomy, because it's designed to be used in daylight as well. Not a huge problem, I have several of those and they are still useful when pointing at bright stars or planets.

Look at this Celestron red dot finder scope:  https://www.firstlightoptics.com/finders/celestron-starpointer-red-dot-finderscope.html See how the rdf has two screws at the bottom that adjust the clamp to grip to the rail on your telescope.

Now look at this Skywatcher rdf: http://skywatcher.com/product/red-dot-finder-slide-in/  It has a different foot but look at only the top section. You can see the exact same two screws as on the Celestron finder. The bottom stalk is removable and just an additional part that you do not need for your telescope. This is the same for all Synta finders that you are probably seeing on Amazon, they all fit your scope, you just have to remove the additional lower part. The only thing that you need to watch out for is that you don’t buy a JOC (Bresser/Explore Scientific) rdf as their rail/clamp is a slightly different size.
