Bresser Mc100 stiff focuser

Just aquired a nice little miniMac in very nice  condition. Original box and packing. The focuser works but seems quite stiff. Anyone any ideas or is this normal on this scope?

How stiff? Maksutov focusers do have some resistance as it’s moving the primary mirror to attain focus.

Stiff compared to how I remember my Skymax 150.

Hi, that would probably be mine off eBay then 😉

 

I only used the scope about 6-8 times, and never really noticed if was too stiff or not as I've had nothing else to compare it to. I got it directly from Bresser via their Amazon store, so I don't think there is anything wrong with it.

It works OK  Andy. Had a quick peep at the morning sky just before dawn today. 

Better stiff than floppy I guess. 

I will compare it with the Skymax over the weekend. It died when I dropped it onto concrete. Corrector plate didn't bounce to well. 😕

Ouch.

It's possible that it may be a little stiff still as it's effectively new, and may loosen up a little with use.
