OOUK Dob Mount, Riser Modification

As owners of OOUK metal Dob mounts know, they sit very low on plastic feet, if the ground has any stones or bumps,
well the scope gets stuck.

So many fols build risers etc. I did on my last one, but this time wanted a neat and factory look.

I found some bonnet risers (Hood) for our cousins over the pond. Aluminium, 30mm tall with a hole for an m6 thread.
eBay was my friend on this one.

So fitted 3 of the 4 with new 50mm S/S screws, looks nice and works well.

I fitted these both to the base of my 12" dobsonian to allow a sack truck to easily slide under the base for wheeling it around. I also fitted them to the base of the tube itself to allow vertical standing of the telescope without any weight or pressure on the collimation screws.

I had exactly the same problem with my OO Dob mount. ย
It would have worked fine on their smooth factory floor๐Ÿ˜Š

Nice neat solution Alan ๐Ÿ‘

I know that we have solved the issue before Ed, this was a new version for the new mount.

As you say, why the original is anything other than suitable for a flat concrete floor is beyond me.ย

Plastic bobbin door stops should also work well for this. I've never even considered this potential problem before as my two Dobs are nearly always used on concrete or tiled surfaces. I think the 200P has been out into the Peak District once since I got it and the 250PX did about 3 sessions away from home in the UK before it got moved to France.
