Had a go at M101 & the supernova last night. Pretty awful conditions with LP and the dust/smoke from Canadian forest fires. Nevertheless the SN showed up after 10s exposure. The final image is 2990s. Bortle 8/9. In a darker location with transparent skies it would be very impressive.

Here’s another attempt last night. Alas, as usual, sky got cloudy, moon had an effect, and brewery across road had party with lights, half way through the session 😡.But I think it is better than previous image. The 2nd image is annotated with HII regions and galaxies. Upon examining image in detail I found Galaxy PGC 49919, at a distance of ~ 103 million ly, at magnitude 14. Apparently it’s receding at 0.6% speed of light. Amazing🤪.

4220s at 10s subs.
