M51 through moonlight and high cloud.

You notice how I make excuses before I even posted the image :)

This was taken last night at around 10pm. The moon is nearly full, there was enough high cloud to lose te guide star!

Because of the brightness of the backgound sky I limited the exposures to 70 seconds.

Canon 300D, SW 150 F5, Baadar Moon/skyglow filter (you know that filter with the stupid name :) ).

I managed 7 exposures of 70 seconds before the guide star went completely.

I took darks... stacked etc in DSS. Processed in PSCS2. Had a very serious uneven glow (from the moon I think) - hence the serious crop.

I think I could get much better when the moon and high cloud isn't around!

Thanks for looking.

Yeah thats the one Steve the Baadar Quentin :) .

Dread to think what it would have been like without it!!!!

I'm tempted to go out again tonight, if the high cloud went away I think I would! But it's like soup out there at the moment.
