M51 dancing in the moonlight

With a moon brightening most of the southern skies, galaxy hunting was perhaps a bit optimistic. M51 is however well placed at the moment so I thought Id give it a shot anyhow.

I got 1 hour and 30 seconds of 4 minute subs before camera batteries went flat. As you can see I have a guiding problem that makes my stars long. I didn't figure it out during the night. Despite guiding issues and noise, I think there is quite a bit of detail in there. I also love the "up close" fov I get with 1000mm.

I will have to go back on a better night with 3-4 hours of capture I guess :-)

As usual my SW explorer 200 newt w/Baader MPCC and Neodyum filter.

It looked like a promising result too, had your guiding played ball.

A bit more data would have helped also, but you can go back to it.

What camera did you use Glenn.?

Ron.;)

Ah! It must be the Canon 10D as for your M35 image.

I've just read your post on the cluster.
