Colour ToUcam 740K and red filter for Moon = oxymoron?

I am about to try shooting Luna through a red #25A filter onto the webcam chip (Sony ICX098BQ Color 640x480). Sounds like I will be using 1/4 of the available pixels only (think of the Bayer matrix: 2 greens, 1 blue, 1red) . Is this completely daft? or a function of focal length?

At least the Moon is bright enough..? if it works there will be less RGB aligning to do ..it might help focus and defeat poorer seeing to some extent too ?

Of course larger aperture will give better results. Interesting! (but then, I'm just silly enough to give it a go myself )
