300mm f3.0 as telscope?

Recommended Posts

I have a 300mm high quality large format lens. It's made for projecting large format film with an size of around 4x5". Is a lens with an aperture of 4" and f3.0 practical as a telescope? I was thinking about something like televue. Is there any other applications or ideas on what i could use this lens for?

These lenses sometimes have poor performance under the stars.

They are not designed to work with an object at infinite.

Having said that, there are MANY projection/ copy lenses used as finders.

It would be worth trying it out as a wide field camera.... you never know, you may be lucky!!
