Jjmorris90
Does anyone have an asi air ? If so what does it mean by bin1 bin2 bin3 bin4? It appears on the right under the capture button.
Elp
In simple terms it combines neighbouring pixels in the camera to create a larger pixel site, however by doing this your resolution comes down. So bin1 is using all pixels as single pixels, bin2 is using 2 x 2 pixels as a "single" pixel and so on. It's only really useful with mono cameras as all pixels are the same (ie all are monochrome), OSC cameras have RGGB pixel layout, I think it can be binned but not practical due to the reduction in pixel utilisation and you need software which can interpret what it's captured. As I understand it CMOS camera do not do this via hardware, it's interpreted via software, the same can also be achieved post capture via software.
Jjmorris90
I have an asi183 so binning is beneficial? Due to oversampling
Elp
Think that's the general idea though I've never tried it myself because you can do it afterward anyway. Cuiv talks about it here: https://youtu.be/LI4FNlKUMkw
