Super saturated stars and a helping of giant halos ! Help !! Please 😃

Recommended Posts

Hi All,

Im getting some very strange results when combining Ha and Oiii with pixelmath.

Equipment is, SW 150 pds (f5)

zwp asi1600mm

zwo electronic 7 position filter wheel with 36mm filters.

Processing is, 1 hour 45 mins Ha @ 300 seconds and the same for Oiii @300 seconds @ unity gain 139 and offset 10.

Calibrated and stacked with wbpp and then combined in pixelmath, red=Ha, green=Oiii, blue =Oiii.

The stars are incredibly saturated and I don’t seem to be able to do anything with them.

Also the halos are off the scale.

Any  assistance is gratefully received.

The only thing I’ve changed in the imaging is the length of exposure. I’m just not sure where to go from here.

The images are jpg saved versions.

One image is the crazy horsehead that’s driving me wild....and the other is the Rosette that came out quite nicely for colour balance and the other is the helix with no halos 🤷‍♂️ And I haven’t changed anything in the imaging train.

what on earth is going on ?

For the horsehead image - halos aside - it looks like the Ha and OIII are not aligned.  I've drawn a few arrows showing where the OIII should be matched with the Ha.

If I extract R, G and B then star align G & B to R and recombine I get:

It's not perfect of course but hopefully shows how out of alignment the channels are.  If you can fix this first for your masters, it will at least bring the image together in a uniform way and let you go from there.

Hope this helps.
