What happens with lost pulses to a mount?

I have an HEQ5 and I'm using it with PHD2 and EQASCOM.  What happens to control pulses sent to the mount if slight binding is occurring? If a pulse is sent to the stepper motor but it is binding occasionally the presumably the stepper would not actually move and the pulse would be lost.  Is it right that the pulse count would go up even though the mount didn't move. So if you slewed some distance from home position and then called for the mount to return to the home position then it would return to the home position according to the count but physically the mount would stop short.

Cheers

There is usually no feedback between the mount motor and the driving electronics.

So while the mount may be commanded to move, if there is any stiction/binding etc., then the drive electronic command system, would assume that its command had been enacted, and update counts etc.

If a 'home' command is then issued, then yes, post the command completion, the mount would not actually be at the home position.
