hi everyone, I just bought a telescope for my son, we're having trouble viewing anything through it, any advice what it could be?

Hello, and welcome to SGL.

If you could tell us the model of the telescope, we should be able to help you. Celestron make a wide range of different telescopes, and the setup instructions are somewhat different for each type.

With any new telescope, it is worth setting it up during the day; it's much easier to focus on a distant tree/post/building, than it is a star.

As Geoff said, and note he said distant. Most telescopes won't focus on something close, like in your garden. Make sure you take the covers off both ends! (Many of us have made that mistake a time or two).

If you're not familiar with the parts, post a picture or two of how you've set it up and it will be easier to help (a picture is worth a thousand words).
