A short 1930s film about the Yerkes refractor

Just found this on Youtube. It's nice to see this giant telescope in use. As far as I understand it's closed now and its future is uncertain...

Brilliant find - there is something magical about these famous refractors. I had the pleasure a few years ago to have a guided tour of the Lick Observatory on Mount Hamilton.

Rising floor - much better idea than wobbly telescopic piers.

Lots of lovely knobs to twiddle on the bottom end.

World's largest camera ? I suppose they're talking about the camera AND lens, cos the camera was only average early 1900's plate camera size.
