NGC 4565, The Needle Galaxy.

Recommended Posts

This beautiful galaxy is located in Coma Berenices, about 56 million light years away.

One of my favourite galaxies, it's definitely got the Wow! factor. Imaged over 2 nights, while trying to avoid the Moon!

44 x 300s, with darks, flats and dark flats. Total exposure time 3 hours 40 minutes.

Processed with ASTAP, SiriL, Starnet++ and Photoshop.

11" SCT at 1700mm, ASI294MC Pro and Optolong L-Pro filter.

Thanks for looking!

Tony.

Wonderful and I think I tried this target myself but I'm having doubts now as it looks completely different to yours 🙂

Thank you!

What equipment did you use for your version?

Some of my light frames were taken with the Moon coming up, so the colour might not be absolutely perfect. I've also reduced the stars very slightly.

I used a 294mc and a GT81 with 0.8x flattener so a fair bit wider than you but also heavily moon polluted. I can see that you'd reduced the stars but yours is a great image, mine was significantly less so 🙂
