New direct image of brown dwarf

Interesting article and image here. Amazing what can be achieved now. The Subaru scope has been around for quite some time so I assume this is a result of new developments on it? (EDIT On closer reading it seems adaptive optics is responsible for enabling the image by countering the effects of the atmosphere, clever stuff!)
