NGC7789 Caroline’s Rose

With only limited time again for imaging before the clouds and rain rolled in, I decided to keep to my recent trend of photographing open clusters and chose Caroline’s Rose. Its not the most draw dropping of targets compared to other open clusters but does have a beautiful moniker.

NGC7789 had just crossed the meridian when I started imaging and was nearly opposite a waxing gibbous moon (94% illumination). I commenced imaging with the Chroma Blue filter working my way through Luminance, Green then finally Red as it moved lower in the night sky.

Calibrated using flats and dark flats captured the following morning and darks from my dark library (50 frames each).

Equipment

  • William Optics Z103 refractor
  • ZWO ASI1600mm Pro Cooled camera (sensor temp -10 ℃, Gain 139, Offset 30)
  • SkyWatcher EQ6R-Pro mount.
  • Chroma 1.25” LRGB filters.
  • Sequence Generator Pro for image acquisition.
  • PixInsight for processing
  • Havana Club, cola and lime for moral support.
