Sun & Moon, 1st Dec 2020

I managed to grab a quick look at the Sun today using my Tak/Baader Coolwedge/binoviewer combo; there is plenty of activity on show at the moment which is good to see finally. I took some shots using my phone handheld to the eyepiece and they came out pretty well. At one point a vapour trail drifted across the Sun which created a really nice effect.

Tonight I popped the Telementor out and caught some lovely views of the Moon, and snapped a nice shot of the terminator.

Impressive,  how do you attach the camera ? Regards Andrew

I didn’t in this instance Andrew, I just hand held the phone over one eyepiece of the binoviewer. With the various barlows involved, the eye relief is quite long so I have to hold the phone a little way away to get on the exit pupil correct and see the full field. I sort of brace my little finger against the eyepiece and rest the phone on it and adjust until in the right place, then take plenty of pictures to try to catch the moments of good seeing. Kind of manual lucky imaging 😉
