Green and red colors in Jupiter

Recommended Posts

I have a William Optics Megrez 72FD. When I was looking at the Jupiter, I see green tinge on the left and red on the right.  Also noticed in some Astro photographs I took, the left side of the picture was greenish and the right was reddish.

the star test seems to be good with the star being perfect circle. Is the issue related to colli action?

As Jupiter is very low you are probably seeing atmospheric chromatic aberration, also your scope is an F/6 doublet so will show some optical chromatic aberration too.

I see it in my scope too - nothing to worry about.

Mars will be much higher in the sky later this year so will give you some proper viewing conditions 👍
