Asteroid 1 Ceres Opposes Sun 2020 AUG 28

Asteroid 1 Ceres is currently the brightest asteroid at magnitude +7.8, slightly brighter than the normally brightest 4 Vesta. Ceres will appear within Aquarius in opposition to the Sun on 2020 AUG 28 at magnitude +7.7.

Ceres was the first discovered asteroid in 1801. It has a mean diameter of 845 km, making it the largest main belt asteroid. It is also classified as a dwarf planet.

Photos and descriptions of Ceres would be welcome additions to this thread.

Thanks for the heads up, It's a while since I tracked down Ceres.

There is something rather rewarding about finding asteroids among the fixed stars.
