Cartes du Ciel - night mode

New to this program, I see the "Night Mode" button and it reddens the chart but the surrounding window frame is white and v bright.

Have seen screen shots with nice dim frames but I can't see where to make that setting change?

The dim frames you mentioned may have been screenshots from Windows 7, where you had much greater control over window item colours with the 'Window Color & Appearance' dialog box. Windows 8 and later removed that option and you have the default white/light grey with only the title bar and pixel wide border colour selectable by 'Settings/Personalisation/Colours'.

In order tochange the other windows item colours, it seems you have to edit the registry to do it, as shown here.

Yes Windows has become much more restrictive to programs trying to control the Windows colours. For a computer operated in the dark, you could either use a different Windows theme or try the Windows night colours.

I personally have moved to a red or grey layer film on the screen but newer displays are probably better in dimming to a low intensity.
