Speeding Up Starnet

Recommended Posts

I've seen that some users are using the Starnet module for Pixinsight for starless images/masks. I came across a way to dramatically increase Starnet's speed (from 3 minutes to 30 seconds in my case). This only works if you are on Windows 64-bit with an nVidia GPU on board. Here's the link: https://darkskies.space/pixinsight-starnet-cuda/

Hope someone finds it useful!

Good tip @SyedT.  I came across this article recently and after configuration it did increase speed significantly for the Starnet++ process!  I have a relatively old card in PC terms - nVidia GTX 1060 6GB.

I do everything on my laptop with a GTX 970M, and this upgrade made a huge difference! The author has done an excellent job figuring this out.

Thanks for this!

I don't use PI so i just use the standalone version, and this has made a dramatic increase in speed for me. I usually use a Stride of 32, so i'd normally have to wait 20-30 mins for it to complete. I haven't timed it, but it's now more like 5 mins. Sweet! 🙂
