EQ5 Pro Synscan + EQMOD

I notice there are some old threads concerning this topic but nothing recent so ....

The other day I got my EQ5 Pro mount working with EQMOD  and Stellarium via a home made EQDirect cable. Really pleased with this but its been a huge learning curve and very confusing at times to say the least! My main motivation for doing this is that I have another ALT/AZ mount with a failed hand controller so I can now use the EQ5 one for that.

So does anyone else regularly use this mount with EQMOD?

One thing that still confuses me is that reading the docs it says EQMOD is compatible with all EQ synscan mounts and yet there is only an EQ5/EQ6 option in the setup? Looking at the specs for the mounts there are differences in gearing etc so how does EQAscom know that I'm using an EQ5 Pro mount ?

I also notice that EQMOD cant be used with ALT/AZ synscan mounts but how about putting this mount on a wedge? Could EQAscom be configured for this mounts gearing?

I'm looking forward to doing an alignment and checking things out under a starry sky soon - I think ... 🙂

When EQMOD first connects to the mount it reads Al the mount specific parameters from the motor controller board and that it how it can work with all the different skywatcher EQ mount types.

EQMOD was developed to support the serial protocolskywatcher first introduced with EQ6/HeQ5 mounts  - at the time we couldn't have known that the range of mounts running this protocol would be expanded - so that's why you see reference to EQ6/HEQ5.
