Newbie Setup Help

Recommended Posts

I am a newbie.  I have an observatory with a TAK 102S and a C9.25.  I also have a Mallincam Hypercolor.  The scopes are mounted on a Losmandy 11 with SBS plate.  Which scope would be better suited to dedicate for visual observation (nebulas, galaxies and planets) and which one should I use with the Mallincam?  I would like to dedicate one for visual and one for Mallincam viewing.  I also have Dekenmeier binoviewer that I can use with either scope.  In other words, is one better suited than the other for visual or for imaging?  Thanks.

Personally I would use the TAK 102S for imaging and the C9.25 for visual. The Tak I believe is f7.5 which is a good mid range focal length for imaging and if you purchased a focal reducer say 0.8 would then give an f6, this is good for a wide range of nebula and galaxies. The C9.25 is f10 which is very limiting for imaging due to narrow fov, also guiding/tracking an f10 is more problematic than for f7.5 / f6. You will eventually need a guide scope and camera for imaging longer subs,
