Mercury Transit with the neighbours

Despite the really poor weather recently, the skies played ball between 12:49 and 13:30 today and I shared some wonderful views of the transit with some of my neighbours in my back garden. I would dearly have liked to use one of my larger aperture, longer focal length refractors but I don't have a suitable filter for them, however, I did happen to have about my person a lovely little Vixen A62SS refractor which comfortably took my available Baader Solarfilm filter to provide some exquisitely crisp views of the tiny black dot of Mercury set against the bright Sun.

I loved the view and so did my neighbours! Simple achromatic refractor, simple altazimuth mount, simple filter = simply wonderful .... 👍
